Community Kindergartens

Community Kindergartens

Community kindergartens are welcoming and friendly, offering play-based programs which cater solely for the needs of the 4 year old age group (the year before compulsory schooling).

The play-based nature of community kindergartens give children the opportunity to learn through play, in a nurturing and informal setting, away from primary school schedules and procedures.

Spring Road Community Kindergarten is one of only two community kindergartens in WA that owns their own building and site. This was a major achievement by many dedicated and community-spirited past parent committees, who were instrumental in working together to achieve this goal and ensuring continuation of this vital community service. As we own the kindy building we do rely on parents to assist us with fundraising each year to keep our beautiful kindy in operation.

Role of the Department of Education

The Department of Education provides an operating grant, staff support and employment. All community kindergartens are linked to a public primary school. The principal of the link school liaises with staff in matters including the educational program, student enrolment, staffing and policies. SRCK is linked to Gooseberry Hill Primary School.

Community Kindergartens Association

The Community Kindergartens Association (CKA) helps those involved in Community Kindergartens in WA.
